Książka stanowi kolejną mocną pozycję w ramach dwujęzycznej polsko-angielskiej serii wydawniczej pod nazwą „The Lublin Philosophical School”. Po Rozważaniach o istocie człowieka i Elementarzu etycznym opublikowanie Wykładów lubelskich jest ważnym wydarzeniem – zawiera bowiem plon akademickiej działalności Karola Wojtyły: wykłady wygłoszone do studentów Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego w latach 1954-1957. Pierwszy wykład jest zatytułowany „Akt i przeżycie etyczne”, drugi dotyczy „Dobra i wartości”, zaś trzeci to: „Zagadnienie normy i szczęścia”. Stanowią one historyczny przegląd stanowisk etycznych, ale i wykład systemowy prezentowanych kwestii. Praca ta poprzedza dzieło Osoba i czyn, zawierając źródła późniejszych koncepcji filozoficznych Wojtyły. O intrygujących losach powstawania przekładu pisze Tłumacz w swojej przedmowie, skierowanej do Czytelnika zachodniego.

This book is another significant point in the bilingual Polish-English publishing series called "The Lublin Philosophical School". After Considerations on the Essence of Man and The Ethical Primer, the publication of The Lublin Lectures is an important event - it contains the result of Karol Wojtyła’s academic activity: lectures to students at the Catholic University of Lublin in 1954-1957. The first lecture is entitled "Act and Ethical Experience," the second concerns "Goodness and Values," and the third is: "The Question of Norm and Happiness". They provide a historical overview of ethical theories, but also a systematic lecture of the presented issues. This work precedes book Person and Action, containing the sources of Wojtyła’s later philosophical concepts. The intriguing story of the making of the translation is described by the Translator in his preface, addressed to the Western reader. In it, the Translator introduces the troubled history of the Catholic University of Lublin in the post-war period, when Karol Wojtyła taught ethics to the students of the Catholic University of Lublin, but also recalls his own studies at the Catholic University of Lublin in the 1980s, when he studied philosophy at the School of Lublin. In a word from the Publisher, Prof. Andrzej Maryniarczyk, we can find comments on the history of attempts to publish The Lublin Lectures in English, which, after decades of efforts, could finally appear in its present, editorially interesting form and on the occasion of the Jubilee of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Karol Wojtyła - Saint John Paul II. This Jubilee was celebrated with particular solemnity in the academic milieu of the Catholic University of Lublin, the place where John Paul II worked as a philosopher and professor. The publication of the bilingual Polish-English edition will allow scholars of Karol Wojtyła’s thought throughout the world to access the original texts of The Lublin Lectures and compare them with the proposed translation.
